Callanetics [1986]

Callanetics [1986]

The fact alone that the lean beautiful body body on the front of all the videos belongs to Callan - 47 at the time - should make you hit the One Click button right now.

This is quite simply the best programme for changing your body shape. I use Jenny Rivett (with Lorraine Kelly - Figure Happy) for my aerobics, and Callanetics three times a week to tone. I thought I was born with a big bum. I wasn't. Within ten days of using this video it had completely changed shape. My waist was tiny - the best EVER excercise for the waist and legs I have found, you can almost see them whittle down before your eyes, and so easy, no sweating and no pain!

My only negatives are this...the tinkly light music will send you to sleep, and gets incredibly irritating after a while. So after you master the exercises and have listened to Callan a few times to get the moves exactly right, turn the volume down, watch the counter and listen to your own music.

Secondly..its a video. When will it come out on DVD??

This is a timeless exercise video (if you ignore the makeup and hair) and it seriously will change your body.

Pinocchio : Special Edition [1940]

Pinocchio : Special Edition [1940]

now it may be a classic, but i'm afraid i was really disappointed with this film. my 5 yr old was frankly bored watching this, it was very slow to get moving. the story line was not what i was expecting. the jimmney cricket / conscience was to abstract for him to understand in the way it was presented. and there was a terrible bit later on with pinnochio getting drunk and smoking cigars. that bit raised a few tricky questions.

what i had expected the main story line to be - pinnochio's nose growing long when he lied, occured only once for about 20 seconds in the middle of the film and never again.

we will not be watching this one again
sadly not enjoyable or educational

Song Of The South [1946]

Song Of The South [1946]

This is one of the best Disney films ever - the story and the songs are brilliant and really catchy. I would love to buy this on DVD as my tape is getting worn. Please Disney do a DVD - everyone loves this film!!!

Sleeping Beauty [Disney 1959]

Sleeping Beauty [Disney 1959]

This is my favourite Disney movie. The backgrounds are detailed and stylised like a series of medieval tapestries. The intergration of the characters in what look like the best sets ever designed for a semi-swashbuckling musical/comedy/thriller is stunning.
I still get frightened when the fire goes out and Maleficent appears to tempt Aurora through the back of the fireplace (Maleficent being a truly evil villainess). The score is superbly used in these scenes. Brilliant stuff.

The Jungle Book (Disney) (1967) [1968]

The Jungle Book (Disney) (1967) [1968]

I do not get why so many people consider this to be 'best Disney movie ever.' For me, it was never one of my favourites. It's not really bad, but I do not consider it to be that good either, especially when compared to Walt's earlier efforts such as Snow White. To be honest, I feel that some of Disney's so-called 'dark age' efforts such as The Rescuers are better than this.

The animation is alright-ish. The backgrounds are beautiful but seem rather scratchy and flat. There are a few zany sequences, but not really enough to keep me entertained. There is hardly any plot, and most of it doesn't even stay true to the book. It's a shame, because there were some wonderful characters that had real potential. The character development was the only real strong point here, unless you include the fact that for once, wolves are not portrayed as ferocious man eaters. But if I wanted to see that, I could just go and watch Balto, which is better. There are a few good songs, but most of them seem forced and out of place. There's none of the beautiful synchronisation like in Bambi and other such films. Here, I think that they were used just for the sake of having a song, just for the sake of lightening up what is a very dull affair.

As I said before, The Jungle Book isn't the worst movie ever, but it certainly isn't the best. This is something that could have been so much more.

And now, to watch grimly as 0 out 120 people found this review helpful.
