When a 12 year old black girl is raped, beaten and almost murdered by two racist, redneck pigs, the little girl's father shoots both of them dead whilst they are being taken to trial.

He committed murder, he is as guilty as sin and nobody believes otherwise.

On the contrary in fact, the main question in this film is whether a black man should be allowed to take vengeance against whites.

Indeed, having based the defendant's entire case on the lie that he was 'temporarily insane,' the killer's attorney spells out this fact at the end of the film by asking the jury to imagine the little girl's attack and then asking "NOW IMAGINE SHE'S WHITE."

Throughout the film, the community is divided between the killer's supporters (mostly black) and the racists (including the KKK) who don't deny the right of vengeance, but believe that it should only be reserved for whites. And whilst the defence lawyer applauds the death penalty for drug-dealers and everyone else who he hates, he believes that it shouldn't apply in this case because he sympathises with the killer.

As I watched this film, I couldn't help but remember the cases of OJ Simpson and Tony Martin; a black man who was assumed to be guilty because both of the victims were white, and a murderer who went free after only three years because the victim was a gypsy and a burglar.

Every character in this film aside from Roarke (Sandra Bullock) is either a bigot, a hypocrit or both. And whilst there is a fascinating subplot about the brother's attempt to take revenge by joining the KKK, the film's genius lies in its exposure of the 'I'm Not Racist BUT' brigade.

If you want to see a shocking example of what's wrong with America and the rest of the human race, then I would almost definitely recommend this film. And if you're a Tony Martin supporter, then the whole point of this film will probably go straight over your head.

An average Hartnell tale. The good Doctor himself turns in the usually high quality performance. Sadly the same cannot be said of his companions. Why did anyone think that Peter Purves could act???

The story itself is typical 60's SF. A nostalgic piece of TV for some, but largely one for the fans only.

This time lsat year i was on my socail daethbed. i was unatached from life. this movie made me think about rejoining bingo night. being an obese 83 yaerold wamon who lived in a tralior it was hard for me to find luv. then i found $8 on the ground and decieded to see this briallent movy.
the storie follows a beuatiful young wamon who finds love in littel doll. the doll was captured and barbie had to save him. it was a sweet littel flic that ended sweetly.
this movy changed my life and i am now on the verge of complet hapynes. i recomned this to anyone who wants to find luv. i only saw this film once and fell aslep durin it but nonetheles i reomned it.

I shall always remember the thrill as a small boy when my parents took me to a local cinema to watch a western. Randolph Scott and particularly Joen McCrea were the order of the day at the time. But Shane was such a hard act to follow regular westerns were just not the same after. Shane played by Alan Ladd, was so good that even with the enhanced photography of today there are not many westerns that can hold a candle to this thoughtful film.

It is interesting that the original intended casting was for Montgomery Clift to play the part of Shane and for William Holden to portray Joe Starrett. Whilst I can see the logic of these selections, Katharine Hepburn as the Mrs. Starrett just does not seem right somehow.

For me however, the character of Wilson played by Jack Palance generates the much needed additional "nastie" that is so evident in the film. Mr. Palance plays his part magnificently. There will surely will never be a finer example of how an evil gunfighter should be portrayed.

A truly great film with truely great characters - The start and the concluding part of the film is way it should have been. Montgomery Clift would not have stood a chance!

There are many intersting facts surrounding the film of Shane. Whilst it is accepted that Alan Ladd had problems with guns, Jack Palance had even bigger problems with horses. It is worth noting that when Wilson visits the Starret ranch with Ryker and the rest of the gang, Wilson is seen to dismount his horse. After more shots that one can remember Jack Palance was unable to dismount in an acceptable fashion. This scene was eventually filmed with Mr. Palance mounting his horse and then the scene played in reverse. Ironically it is the only thing in the whole film that did not look quite right. Watch closely next time! Now there is something for your diary tonight!
