In The Bleak Midwinter [1995]

In The Bleak Midwinter [1995]

This is a film that I went to see at the cinema on a whim. I liked Kenneth Brannagh's earlier films, especially Much Ado About Nothing, and had a couple of hours to kill.

I came out of the cinema feeling fantastically uplifted.

Why can't I get this film on DVD??????

Teletubbies - Uh-oh! Messes And Muddles [1997]

Teletubbies - Uh-oh! Messes And Muddles [1997]

This is a title that is a must have for a true Teletubbie fan.
The fantastic four spill gallons of Tubby custard, leave the
Dome in total chaos, but the Noo-noo comes to the rescue to clean
up. Your child will enjoy the custard scene as well as the cloud
filling the dome. Tinky-Winky at his best..Noo-noo has his work cut out...a keeper!!!

Rupert And The Frog Song [1985]

Rupert And The Frog Song [1985]

I am giving this film 5 stars, due to the fact that my 18 year old girlfriend LOVES this film, from when she was really young till now, she puts it on atleast once a week and watches it without blinking an eyelid. She is in total ablis, no control over anything happening around her aslong as Pual is singing those joyess ryhms. Infact, she is watching it now and has no idea that i am writing this, but as to my amusment, i find it very pleasing to do so. This is not a joke as i am totally meaningfull of my 5 stars that i am giving this film.

A Christmas Carol [1999]

A Christmas Carol [1999]

I remember thinking nine years ago 'What the hell do we need yet another version of A Xmas Carol for' (as great as the story is) and consequently, I avoided watching it. But years roll on quite swiftly, and eventually, I thought I'd give it a go, spurred on mainly by seeing Patrick Stewart on a few chatshows down the years and thinking what a nice bloke he was, completely unshowbizzy. He was without doubt a star in this film version, full of awe at what his ghosts are showing him, and full of humanity when he eventually saw the light.

This is quite a snug and cosy feeling production, with alot of attention paid to little details, and the domestic scenes with Bob Cratchet and family are heartwarming. Stewart plays the character as he should be played, a man suddenly shown how wrong he'd been in his outlook on life, and he just snaps straight into the right and joyous way to live and give, realising instantly that ordinary people are really quite likable and deserving, and he is not at all motivated to change by the fear of damnation or neverending torment that the Ghost of the future presages. Of course the other great Scrooge players did the same, but it was nice to see a slightly less heralded screen actor achieve it. Nice production with a lovely, homely, Christmassy feel to it. Yes, a very fine version, I thought.

Beauty And The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (Disney)

Beauty And The Beast: The Enchanted Christmas (Disney)

Although the events of this film sit within the time-scale of the original, it is an interesting exploration of some of the untouched themes from its predecessor.

The Beast's dislike of Christmas is assumed by the audience to be simple 'Scrooge'-ism. As the story unfolds, we discover a deeper, more personal rationale for his aversion.

The addition of new characters - Forte (voiced by Tim Curry) and Fife (Paul Reubens - aka Pee-Wee Herman) - gives the story room to expand.

Ultimately, though, this one is strictly for the real fans - or at least, completists! :)

Bugsy Malone [1976]

Bugsy Malone [1976]

I watched this film at various stages throughout my life and still have a soft spot for Bugsy Malone. Jodie Foster is and always has been one of my favourite actresses and this is the film I first saw her in. Remember when Babyface says 'get Babyface..I am Babyface' who incidentally is a British actor called Dexter Fletcher and has been in many television productions and films more famously in Lock Stock as Soap. The British actors seem to have done more with their lives than the American ones.....please correct me if I'm wrong. I wont mind...

This film is never outdated, should still be 'allowed' by the PC Brigade and no doubt be watched a few generations down the line. The actors were outstanding for their age and for the time and the whole thing was written well for them.
